CC Resolution No. 608 9sl RESOLUTION NO. 608 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN TEXAS , ENCOURAGING THE USE OF DOMESTIC STEEL AND DOMESTIC PRODUCTS IN ALL CITY OF BAYTOWN CONSTRUCTION. WHEREAS , foreign steel producers who are subsidized by their respective governments in order to maintain full employment at their facilities, have pirated twenty (207o) percent of the steel market in the United States by dumping their products onto the domestic scene at below-cost prices; and WHEREAS, as a result of this cut-throat trade practice the United States steel industry has suffered a severe drop in profits and has been forced to drastically curtail production, resulting in the layoff of more than sixty-thousand (60, 000) well-paid employees ; and WHEREAS, the jobs of many of our local and neighboring citizens who are employed in steel-producing plants are in jeopardy if foreign imports continue to flood the domestic market ; and WHEREAS, taxes paid by these workers make it possible to support many of the programs of our city and county governments ; and WHEREAS , the City of Baytown Council desires to lend its support to a solution for the growing problem; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS : That the City Council of the City of Baytown , Texas, hereby unanimously adopt a policy position that will en- courage the use of domestic steel and domestic products in all future City of Baytown construction. 952 INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown this 12th day of Jnnnnry 1978 .
