RESOLUTION NO. 587
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS , AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND TRAFFIC
TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY APPLICATION INSTRUMENTS TO
APPLY TO THE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY, DEPARTMENT OF
HIGHWAYS & PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, FOR GRANT FUNDS FOR
THE EXTENSION OF THE SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT
PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF BAYTOWN.
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Baytown adopted
Resolution No. 549 authorizing the Director of Planning and
Traffic to execute the necessary application instruments to
apply for grant funds to fund a Selective Traffic Enforcement
Program for the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has been notified that
additional federal funds are available for the Selective
Traffic Enforcement Program and the City Council of the City
of Baytown wishes to apply for additional funds in order to
extend the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program to further
improve traffic safety in the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, in order to be considered for extended Selective
Traffic Enforcement Program funds the City of Baytown must
complete its Contract Change Notice and deliver same to the
Pasadena office of the State Department of Highways and
Public Transportation no later than Friday, June 24 , 1977 ;
and
WHEREAS , because the City Council deems that the con-
tinuation of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program is in
the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the
citizens of the City of Baytown, the City Council of the
City of Baytown hereby finds and determines that authorizing
the execution and delivery of the necessary instruments to

apply for an extension of the Selective Traffic Enforcement
Program by June 24, 1977 , creates an emergency and an urgent
public necessity for the consideration of this matter at its
regular meeting on the 23rd day of June, 1977; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : That the Director of Planning and Traffic
and other officers of the City are hereby authorized and
directed to execute the necessary application instruments to
apply to the office of Traffic Safety for an extension of a
Selective Traffic Enforcement Program for the City of Baytown
for three months through September , 1977 .
Section 2 : Effective Date : This resolution shall take
effect immediately from and after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of
the City Council on this 23rd day of June 1977 .
