A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,
ESTABLISHING THE BAYTOWN AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL COM-
MISSION.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1 : That the Baytown American Revolution Bicentennial Commission is
hereby established to serve for such time and perform such functions as may be
authorized by the City Council .
Section 2: That the City Council does hereby appoint three Bicentennial
subcommittees as follows:
HERITAGE '76 FESTIVAL '76 HORIZONS '76

The subcommittees are composed of individuals from trade and professional groups ;
the Chamber of Commerce; the ministerial alliance; civic, service, cultural ,
patriotic, and historical organizations ; secondary and higher educators ; and
are representative of the community in regard to age, race , and sex.
Section 3: That the three Bicentennial subcommittees hereby appointed
reflect the major areas of emphasis designated by the National Bicentennial
Committee. The Heritage '76 Committee will review and implement projects that
are historical in nature and that commemorate or observe some aspect or individual
of importance in Baytown 's past. The Festival '76 Committee will concern itself
with activities during the celebration year such as school competitions , expositions
and displays , picnics and parades . The Horizons '76 Committee will develop
various ideas submitted as suitable to improve the quality of life in the City
of Baytown and to provide for a lasting Beautification Project.
Section 4: All of the above should be compatible with the overall Texas theme,
"The Promise of America, Past, Present and Future. "
Section 5: The Chairman of the Baytown American Revolution Bicentennial
Commission shall coordinate and expedite the work of the various committees and
the Commission shall be provided with necessary equipment, materials, and space.
Section 6: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of
the City of Baytown this 19th day of De - mher 1974.
