CC Resolution No. 487 RESOLUTION NO. 487 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING AND URGING CONTINUATION OF THE STATE AND LOCAL FISCAL ASSISTANCE ACT AND URGING ALL CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES TO ISSUE PUBLIC STATEMENTS EXPRESSING THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE CONTINUATION OF THE REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, the General Revenue Sharing Program passed in 1972 by the Congress of the United States expires on December 31 , 1976 ; and WHEREAS, the future of this program is not yet decided, but will be decided by the 94th Congress that will be elected in November of 1974 and will serve during 1975-76 ; and WHEREAS, serious economic and social consequences will result if Revenue Sharing is terminated; and WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Baytown deems that every can- didate running for election to Congress be aware of the necessity of continuing the Revenue Sharing Program; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown wholeheartedly endorses the continuation of the Revenue Sharing Program; that all local Con- gressional candidates be urged to issue public statements expressing their com- mitment to the continuation of the Revenue Sharing Program; and that the City Manager be instructed to forward copies of this resolution to all local Con- gressional candidates. Section 2: This Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council .
