A UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ,
TEXAS, FORMALLY RECOGNIZING AND THANKING ALLEN CANNON FOR HIS FIVE
YEARS OF DEVOTED SERVICE AS COUNCILMAN OF DISTRICT NO. FIVE AND RE-
COGNIZING SOME OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING
ABOUT DURING HIS TENURE OF OFFICE.
WHEREAS, Allen Cannon has served the City of Baytown as Councilman of
District No. Five (5) for a period of five years , beginning April 9, 1969
through August 8, 1974; and
WHEREAS, during such time the said Allen Cannon has distinguished him-
self and the City of Baytown through his untiring efforts on behalf of the
City Council , the Administration, and the City of Baytown as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the said Allen Cannon has been instrumental in the imple-
mentation of the 11 .6 Million Dollar 1970 Capital Improvements Program which
included among other things the purchase and development by the City of major
park properties , the construction of a new Police and Municipal Courts Building,
the construction of a new City Service Center, and the construction of many
major street improvements; and
WHEREAS, the said Allen Cannon has also been instrumental in the City
of Baytown 's extensive improvement of existing water and sewer facilities ,
increased retirement and health insurance benefits for City employees , an-
nexation of additional territory to the City, initiation of an infiltration
abatement project with regard to City sewer lines , and providing a method
for the conversion from ground water to surface water by the City; and
WHEREAS, during his terms of office the said Allen Cannon has served
the City on various committees which include:
Council Traffic Committee, Chairman
Ambulance Committee
Utilities Committee
Industrial District Committee
Nominating Committee - Goals for Baytown
WHEREAS, during his terms of office Allen Cannon served as Mayor Pro
Tem of the City of Baytown and as member of the Executive Committee of the
Houston-Galveston Area Council ; and
WHEREAS, during his terms of office, due in no small part to his efforts,
the City of Baytown experienced continued growth and prosperity; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown desires formally to ex-
press its appreciation to Allen Cannon for his faithful service and dedicated
participation in the government of the City of Baytown ; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : THAT the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby officially
recognizes , thanks , and commends the said, ALLEN CANNON, for his valuable
services as City Councilman of District No. Five (5) .

City Council of the City of Baytown on this 22nd day of August 1974.
