CC Resolution No. 463 RESOLUTION NO. 463 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN TO EXECUTE A STATEMENT OF INTENT TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION JOINT INSURANCE FUND AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 283, passed by the 1973 Texas Legislature, subjects the State and all of its political subdivisions to the requirements of the Texas Workmen's Compensation Act, abolishing the permissive feature and made coverage mandatory; and WHEREAS, the mandatory date for coverage for the City of Baytown is July 1, 1974; and WHEREAS, in October, 1973, the Texas Municipal League's Board of Directors appointed a Committee to study the possibility of a statewide self-insurance fund for cities; and WHEREAS, the Committee developed the format for the TML Workmen's Compensation Fund which allows each city to become self-insured, thereby reaping the benefits of mass purchasing and mass coverage; concomitantly, costs are reduced far below that of any standard insurance programs; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, hereby au- thorizes Fritz Lanham, City Manager, to execute a Statement of Intent to subscribe to the Texas Municipal League Workmen's Compensation Joint Insurance Fund and names J. B. LeFevre, Finance Director, as the Workmen's Compensation Coordinator. A copy of said statement is attached hereto, marked Exhibit "A", and made a part hereof for all intents and purposes. Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas. INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, on this 28th day of March 1974.
