A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN , TEXAS,
THAT THE CITY DESIRES FOR THE STATE TO ADMINISTER THE TEXAS
HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION ACT WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN.
WHEREAS, the Sixty-Second Legislature recently passed the Texas Highway
Beautification Act authorizing the Texas Highway Commission to provide for the
control and regulation of outdoor advertising and certain junkyards and auto-
mobile graveyards and for the preservation and enhancement of scenic beauty of
land bordering certain public highways ; and
WHEREAS, although the Act covers all of the above mentioned subjects ,
the Texas Highway Department is concerned at this time with only the control
and regulation of outdoor advertising signs ; and
WHEREAS, an agreement between the Highway Commission and the Secretary
of Transportation for the control of advertising signs within zoned and unzoned
commercial and industrial areas has been executed giving political subdivisions
the option of administration of the Act within its corporate limits , or allowing
the State to administer the Act; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN , TEXAS :
Section 1 : That it is the desire of the City of Baytown that the State
of Texas administer the Texas Highway Beautification Act within the corporate
limits of the City of Baytown.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect from and after its
passage by the City Council .
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council
of the City of Baytown this 6th day of July 1972.
