A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, URGINING AND SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO HALT WITH-
DRAWAL OF SUBSURFACE WATER: URGING AND SUPPORTING LEGIS-
LATION WHICH WOULD INSURE THE PROMPT AVAILABILITY OF
SURFACE WATER.
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has and is experiencing serious ground
subsidence and related problems ; and
WHEREAS, ground subsidence is directly related to the withdrawal
of subsurface water; and
WHEREAS, alternate sources of water are available, are becoming
available, or can be made available; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : That the City Council supports and urges legislation
halting the withdrawal of subsurface waters in this area and areas with similar
subsidence problems as soon as surface water is available, and -further;
Section 2: That the City Council supports and urges legislation
which would insure the prompt availabiltiy of surface water.
Section 3: This resolution shall take effect from and after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City
Council of the City of Baytown this 12th day of April 1972.
