CC Resolution No. 375 RESOLUTION NO. 375 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN , TEXAS, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE U. S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO UNDERTAKE A STUDY OF THE PRESCRIBED AREA OF THE GOOSE CREEK FLOOD PLAIN, PURSUANT TO SECTION 206, PUBLIC LAW 86-645, AND TO INVESTIGATE THE INTENSITY OF FLOOD AND ESTABLISH FLOOD ELEVATIONS ALONG SAID WATER COURSE. WHEREAS, the City of Baytown, Texas , under authority vested in said City by the State of Texas , has responsibility for the safety of life and property of its citizens from fire, flood, panic and other things and events , and WHEREAS, its is the desire of the City to encourage optimum use of land in and adjacent to the City of Baytown, and WHEREAS, the area of Goose Creek within the planning area of the City is an area of hazard by inundation of water, and due to the continued pressure of land needs for residential , commercial , industrial and recreational uses there is a need for flood damage prevention measures and regulations for the use thereof, and WHEREAS, the community needs a factual basis for reducing future flood damage and hazards through carefully considered and well planned local regulations and use of the flood plain, including both guiding prospective land use and providing adequate flood-way and channel right-of-way and channel clearances; to provide publicly available information for the guidance of private citizens and interests on the use of flood plains , and to minimize future pubTic expenditures and for alleviation of flood problems which would follow improper flood plain development, therefore increasing the amount of Tand available for use, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That, the City of Baytown, Texas , respectfully requests the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to undertake a study of the prescribed area of the Goose Creek flood plain, pursuant to Section 206 , Public Law 86-645, and to investigate the intensity of flood and establish flood ele- vations along said water course. Section 2: This resolution shall take effect after its passage by the City Council .
