A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, OFFICIALLY ENDORSING THE PROPOSAL TO GRANT TO PERSONS
OVER SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS OF AGE A TAX EXEMPTION ON THE
FIRST $3,000.00 OF TAXABLE PROPERTY VALUATION; AUTHORIZING
AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THIS
RESOLUTION; AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD CER-
TIFIED COPIES OF SAME TO MEMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE
REPRESENTING THE CITY OF BAYTOWN.
WHEREAS, members of the community who are retired and who
live on fixed incomes are most affected by increases in the cost
of living, and in particular, by increases in the cost of providing
city services; and
WHEREAS, such increases have in recent years caused an
undue hardship on such retired members of our community; and
WHEREAS, any relief to be given to retired people concerning
ad valorem taxation must originate with the State Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown believes
that legislative designed to relieve the burden of ad valorem taxaton
on retired people deserves support; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown
hereby officially endorses the proposal to grant to persons over
sixty-five (65) years of age a tax exemption on the first $3,000.00
of taxable property valuation, and hereby encourages its State Legislators
to support such proposal .
Section 2: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
and directed to execute this resolution, and the City Manager is
directed to forward certified copies of same to members of the State
Legislature representing the City of Baytown.

of Baytown, on this 25th day of March, 1971 .
