A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN OFFI-
CIALLY DEDICATING THE TRACT OF LAND GIVEN TO THE CITY BY
J. C. ROLLAWAY, AS WELL AS THE PICKETT AND THE GREAT WESTERN
SULPHUR COMPANY TRACTS PURCHASED BY THE CITY, AS A PUBLIC
PARK, AND OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING AND NAMING SUCH TRACTS
"HOLLAWAY PARK".
WHEREAS, Mr. J. C. Hollaway, by a deed of gift delivered
to the City on December 19, 1968, conveyed to the City a tract of
land near Cary Bayou and Raccoon Drive to be used as a city park;
and
WHEREAS, the gift to the City by Mr. Hollaway created an
interest in the City in acquiring a major city park on Cary Bayou,
with the tract given to the City by Mr. Hollaway forming a keystone
in the City's park plans; and
WHEREAS, the City Council heretofore acknowledged Mr. Hollaway 's
gift and expressed its appreciation on behalf of the citizens of
the City for the donation of this magnificent wooded site to the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to officially dedicate
such land, among other tracts , for park purposes, and to further
express the graditude and appreciation of the community to Mr. Hollaway
by naming not only the Hollaway tract but also adjacent park land
acquisitions "Hollaway Park"; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1 : That the City Council hereby dedicates the Hollaway
10.1501 acres tract, the Pickett 1 .5649 acres tract south of the
Hollaway tract, and the Great Western 9.886 acres tract south of
the Pickett tract, for public park purposes .
Section 2: That the City Council hereby officially designates
and names the above described Hollaway Pickett and Great Western
tracts as "Rollaway Park" .
Section 3: This resolution shall take effect from and
after its passage by the City Council .
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, on this llth day of March, 1971 .
