CC Resolution No. 304 RESOLUTION NO. 304 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN FOR- MALLY SUPPORTING THE REQUEST OF THE TEXAS LIBRARY AND HISTORI- CAL COMMISSION TO THE 62ND TEXAS LEGISLATURE THAT $1 ,700,000.00 BE APPROPRIATED FOR EACH YEAR OF THE NEXT BIENNIUM TO FULLY IMPLEMENT THE PROVISIONS OF THE LIBRARY SYSTEMS ACT: AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THIS RESOLU- TION; AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD A CERTIFIED COPY OF SAME TO THE TEXAS LIBRARY AND HISTORICAL COMMISSION. WHEREAS, the Library Systems Act, Article 5446a, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, was enacted by the 61st Texas Legislature in Regular Ses- sion in 1969; and WHEREAS, the Library Systems Act creates a network of interrelated library systems throughout the State and provides for State grants-in- aid to implement the Act; and WHEREAS , to fund the Act, an appropriation of $1 ,700,000.00 for each year of the next biennium has been requested by the Texas State Library and Historical Commission; and WHEREAS, municipal libraries, as well as all other public libraries in Texas, will benefit from a full implementation of this Act; and WHEREAS, every citizen of this State may benefit from the widest possible dissemination of knowledge through out public libraries; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby supports the request of the Texas Library and Historical Commission that the 62nd Legislature appropriate the sum of $1 ,700,000.00 for each year of the next biennium to fully impelment the provisions of the Library Systems Act. Section 2: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to execute this resolution, and the City 'Manager is directed to forward a certified copy of same to the Texas Library and Historical Commission.
