A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN FOR-
MALLY ENDORSING THE ONE CENT TAX ON NON-RETURNABLE CONTAINERS;
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE
THIS RESOLUTION; AND THE CITY MANAGER IS DIRECTED TO FORWARD
A CERTIFIED COPY OF SAME TO THE HONORABLE CLYDE DOYAL, MAYOR
OF THE CITY OF PASADENA, TEXAS.
WHEREAS, a one cent tax on non-returnable containers has been
suggested as a means of decreasing the production and/or sale of such con-
tainers, and/or to assist in the disposal of such materials ; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown is cognizant
of the fact that there is an increase of such containers, and that the
problems of littering and refuse collection/disposal are increasing; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that such proposed legislation
has merit, and deserves the official endorsement of the City Council; NOW
THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: That legislation based on the concept of a one cent
tax on non-returnable containers is hereby officially endorsed by the City
Council of the City of Baytown, and the City Council hereby urges all
interested agencies to join in the effort to cause such legislation to
become reality.
Section 2: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
and directed to execute this resolution, and the City Manager is directed
to forward a certified copy of same to the Honorable Clyde Doyal, Mayor
of the City of Pasadena, Texas.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the City Council of the City of
Baytown, Texas, on this 22nd day of October, 1970.
