RESOLUTION NO. 250
A UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, FORMALLY AUTHORIZING AND
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE FORMAL APPLI-
CATION TO THE FEDERAL INSURANCE ADMINISTRATOR TO
PLACE FLOOD-PRONE AREAS WITHIN THE CITY ON THE
RISK PREMIUM RATE REGISTER SO THAT SUCH AREAS
MAY QUALIFY FOR FLOOD INSURANCE UNDER THE NATIONAL
FLOOD INSURANCE ACT OF 1968.
WHEREAS , the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968
has been passed by Congress , designed to meet the needs of
providing insurance in flood-prone areas, which over the years
private industry has been unable to meet without assistance; and
WHEREAS, certain areas of the City of Baytown have
been continually plagued by flooding , causing the residents
of such areas to suffer excessive losses for which there has
been either no or inadequate insurance protection; and
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Baytown
has previously indicated, by Resolution No. 246 , adopted on
the 20th day of March, 1969 , evidence of positive interest
in the said Federal program; and
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Baytown
is further desirous of taking all other official actions neces-
sary to expedite the availability of such insurance protection;
NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN, TEXAS :
Section 1: That the City Manager is hereby au-
thorized and directed to immediately make application to
have flood-prone areas within the City of Baytown, and es-
pecially those areas in the Brownwood and Lakewood Additions
habitually flooded by tide water, placed on the premiLun risk
rate register of the Federal Flood Insurance Operations Office
so that such areas may qualify for flood insurance under Title
XIII of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968.
Section 2 : That the City Manager is further directed
to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Federal
Insurance Administrator, Department of Housing and Urban De-
velopment, 451 Seventh Street, S .W. , Washington, D.C. 20410 .
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote
of the City Council of the City of Baytown this 4th day of
April, 1969 .
