A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN URGING THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
TO INVESTIGATE THE DISASTER IN THE BROWNWOOD AREA
CAUSED BY FLOODING; URGING THE SMALL BUSINESS AD-
MINISTRATION AND OTHER FEDERAL AUTHORITIES TO DE-
CLARE THE SAID AREA A DISASTER AREA AND MAKING THE
SAID AREA ELIGIBLE FOR LOW INTEREST LOANS AND OTHER
DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR
AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THIS RESOLUTION AND DI-
RECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD A CERTIFIED
COPY OF SAME TO THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION.
WHEREAS , the Brownwood area, which has been con-
tinually plagued during storms by flooding due to high tides
and the subsidence of the area, again suffered extensive
damage by flooding as a result of unusually high tides which ,,,
struck the area Thursday night and Friday morning, February
13 and 14, 1969 ; and
WHEREAS , the said flooding caused approximately
300 families to leave their homes, and caused extensive
damage to homes and businesses , estimated to be in excess
of $250 ,000 .00 ; and
r WHEREAS, the residents of the Brownwood area, who
have again been victimized by their unfortunate circumstances,
will once more be required to repair their homes and eradicate
the damages caused by the flooding; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the residents
of the Brownwood area are deserving of Federal assistance in
the form of low interest Small Business Administration loans
and other disaster assistance programs; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of
Baytown hereby urges the Small Business Administration to
investigate the disaster in the Brownwood area caused by the
said flooding, and that Federal authorities declare the area
a disaster area for the purpose of making the said area eli-
gible for low interest loans , as well as other disaster re-
lief assistance.
Section 2 : That the Small Business Administration
is also urged to facilitate the administrative processing of
those filing applications for loans by the establishment of
a temporary office in Baytown.
Section 3: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized and directed to execute this resolution and the
City Manager is directed to forward a certified copy of same
to the Small Business Administration.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative
vote of the members of the City Council of the City of
Baytown, this 14th day of February, 1969 .
