CC Resolution No. 221 RESOLUTION NO. 221 A UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZING AND COMMEND- ING THE SAM HOUSTON RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DE- VELOPMENT PROJECT FOR ITS EFFORTS IN PLANNING FOR THE EFFECTIVE USE AND DEVELOPMENT OF NATURAL RE- SOURCES AND ENDORSING ITS EFFORTS TO SEEK STATE AND FEDERAL AID IN PREPARING PLANS FOR THE AREA COMPRISING HARRIS, GALVESTON, BRAZORIA, MONTGOMERY AND WALKER COUNTIES; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A COPY OF THIS RE- SOLUTION AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD A CERTIFIED COPY OF SAME TO THE SAM HOUSTON RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT. WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, is cognizant of the rapid population growth of the Gulf Coast area, and has frequently cited the need for com- prehensive planning in dealing with problems of urbanization; and WHEREAS , the rapid urbanization which has been experienced in the Gulf Coast area has produced serious problems requiring urgent action, particularly with regard to pollution abatement, solid waste disposal, pest control anc the preservation of recreation sites; and WHEREAS, the Sam Houston Resource Conservation and Development Project has been organized to assist in com- prehensive planning that will lead to better control of these problems; and WHEREAS, the City Council has taken notice of the efforts of the Sam Houston Resource Conservation and Development Project to secure State and Federal aid in order that it may assist the Houston-Galveston Area Council in developing plans and programs to control these problems; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS : Section 1: That the Sam Houston Resource Conservation a..L Development Project is hereby officially commended for its efforts as indicated above, and the City Council hereby joins in supporting its application for State and Federal aid in connection with its program. r Section 2: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to execute this resolution and the City Manager is directed to forward a certified copy of same to the said Sam Houston Resource Conservation and Development Project.
