A UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
RECOGNIZING THAT THE AREAS KNOWN AS TRI-CITY BEACH AND SHILOH ARE NOT
LEGALLY A PART OF BAYTOWN BUT, IN FACT, THEY ARE CLOSELY IDENTIFIED
AND RELATED TO BAYTOWN IN ALL OTHER WAYS; REQUESTING THAT THE GENERAL
TELEPHONE COMPANY OF THE SOUTHWEST DO EVERYTHING IN ITS POWER TO GIVE
THESE AREAS OPTIMUM TELEPHONE SERVICE; DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY
CLERK TO EXECUTE THIS RESOLUTION AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO
PRESENT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO MR. E. H. DANNER,
PRESIDENT OF GENERAL TELEPHONE COMPANY OF THE SOUTHWEST AND MR. J. C.
DUGAS, PRESIDENT OF THE CITIZENS COMMITTEE FOR BETTER TELEPHONE SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown has the legal right to
regulate the rates and services of its telephone utility within the territorial
limits of such City; and
WHEREAS, Baytown has no legal right to regulate such utility outside
such confines ; but
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown recognizes that Tri-City
Beach and Shiloh are parts of Baytown economically and culturally and in all
respects except legally; NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That the General Telephone Company of the Southwest is hereby
notified that the areas known as Tri-City Beach and Shiloh are in fact integral
parts of Baytown and that the citizens therein are entitled to optimum telephone
service.
Section 2: That the City Council hereby requests the Telephone Company
to do everything within its power to give the citizens of such areas optimum tele-
phone service .
Section 3: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and
directed to execute this resolution and the City Manager is directed to forward
certified copies of same to Mr. E. H. Danner, President of General Telephone Company
of the Southwest and Mr. J. C . Dugas , President of the Citizens Committee for Better
Telephone Service.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED, unanimously, by an affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown on this the 8th day of February, A.D. , 1968.
