A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN REQUESTING RAIL-
ROAD COMPANIES OPERATING IN BAYTOWN TO MAKE PERIODIC TESTS AND CHECKS OF
THEIR AUTOMATIC SIGNALING DEVICES AT THE STREET CROSSINGS WHERE SAME ARE
LOCATED; REQUESTING THAT SUCH COMPANIES GIVE QUARTERLY REPORTS TO THE
CITY REFLECTING THE RESULTS OF SUCH TESTS AND CHECKS; AUTHORIZING AND
DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION
AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FURNISH CERTIFIED COPIES OF SAME TO
THE PROPER OFFICIALS OF SAID COMPANIES.
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is developing into a railroad center; and
WHEREAS, many of its streets are now crossed by railroad tracks and an
increasing number will be crossed in the future; and
WHEREAS, an ever-increasing number of such streets will be affected by
automatic signaling devices; and
WHEREAS, such devices are a great aid to vehicular traffic under normal
conditions but same can. be- extrahazardous when they are malfunctioning; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is anxious to have all of such devices
operated at a high level of efficiency; NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council takes cognizance of the fact that rail-
road automatic signaling devices should operate properly and, to this end, all
railroads operating within Baytown are hereby formally requested to test and check
all of such devices no less frequently than four times each year and to make written
reports quarterly to the City Council through the City Manager reflecting the
results of such tests and checks. That such railroad companies are urged to main-
tain and keep such devices at their maximum operating efficiency.
Section 2: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed
to execute this resolution and the City Manager is directed to present certified
copies of same to the property officials of said companies.
