RESOLUTION NO. 171
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN RESPECT-
FULLY REQUESTING AND URGING THE HARRIS COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT
TO ASSIST THE CITY OF BAYTOWN IN PROVIDING EMERGENCY AMBULANCE
SERVICE IN THE COUNTY NEAR BAYTOWN OR, IN THE ALTERNATIVE, REQUEST-
ING THE HOSPITAL DISTRICT TO BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR FURNISHING
AMBULANCE SERVICE WITHIN THE COUNTY; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION AND
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD CERTIFIED COPIES OF SAME TO
THE PROPER OFFICIALS OF SAID HARRIS COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the furnishing of ambulance service has, until recently, always
been provided by private enterprise in and near Baytown; and
WHEREAS, all of the cities of the State of Texas are now experiencing
difficulty in having ambulance service provided by private operators; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has worked hard and diligently at attempting
to resolve this problem and furnish ambulance service to people in and near Baytown;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has contracted with a private person to per-
form part of the ambulance services needed in this area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown believes that this is a proper function for
:Harris County and the Harris County Hospital District; NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1•
That the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby respectfully requests
and urges the Harris County Hospital District to assist the City of Baytown in pro-
viding emergency ambulance service within Harris County near Baytown or, in the
alternative, to assume the responsibility of the entire business of providing
emergency ambulance service within Harris County. That the City Council takes
cognizance that emergency ambulance service is relatively expensive and it requests
that Harris County Hospital District respond to this resolution as soon as possible.
Section 2•
That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to
axc-cu::e this resolution and the City Manager is directed to present certified copies
of same to the proper officials of said Harris County Hospital District.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the members of
the City Council of the City of Baytown on this the 25th day of May, 1967.
