CC Resolution No. 56-A RESOLUTION NO. 56 A A UNANIIriOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTO':1N REQUESTING THE HARRIS COUNTY DELE- GATION TO THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO DO EVERYTHING IN ITS POt7ER TO GET THE TEXAS PARES AND 1JILDLIFE DEPARTMENT TO ESTABLISH A TRACT OF LAND NEAR THE MOUTH OF THE CEDAR BAYOU STREAI6i AS A STATE PARK; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE IviAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THIS RESOLUTION AND DIRECTING THE CITY tciANAGER TO MAIL A COPY OF SAI iE TO EACH I.:EIviBER OF THE HARRIS COUNTY DELEGATIO14 TO THE TEXAS LEGISLA- TURE AND A COPY TO THE CHAIRI.;AN OF THE TEXAS PARES AIND WILDLIFE- DEPARTI.iENT. ''JHEREAS, Baytown is virtually surrounded by water, consisting of channels, rivers, bayous, lakes and streams ; and 4JHEREAS, this area is noted as a popular resort for fishing, migra- tory bird hunting and water sports and its economic and recreational life is closely tied in with the foregoing; and SJHEREAS, there are no parks of any consequence in or near the Baytown area; and JHEREAS, in spite of an abundance of water there is virtually no place a person can launch a boat and the few places that do have launching sites charge a fee therefor; and tM EREAS, a State established and maintained park is direly needed and would be conducive to the furtherance of recreation for residents and tour- ists in this area; and WHEREAS, there is a tract of land near the mouth of the Cedar Bayou Stream consisting of approximately twelve and one half acres and same is ideally suited for a park and is available; NO.1, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY JOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOIJN: That the City Council of the City of Baytown is of the unanimous opin- ion that the Texas Parks and ':Jildlife Department should establish and main- tain a park near the Baytown area and same should be created on a twelve and one half acre tract of land that is available at the mouth of the Cedar Bayou Stream. That the Harris County Delegates to the Texas Legislature are hereby respectfully urged to assist the City of Baytown in its efforts to establish a park at such location. That the b;ayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to properly execute this Resolution and the City Manager is directed to furnish a copy of same to each member of the Harris County Delegation to the Texas Legislature and a copy to the Chairman of the Texas Parks and Uildlife De- partment.
