CC Resolution No. 42 RESOLUTION NO. 42 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE BAYTOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DECLARING THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH OTHER AGEN- CIES IN DEVELOPING A BETTER CITY AND COMMUNITY IN WHICH TO LIVE AND, IN PARTICULAR, TO IMPROVE THE GOOSE CREEK STREAM IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN; AND JOINING WITH THE PORT COMMISSION IN ITS PRO- POSAL TO DEEPEN GOOSE CREEK STREAM. WHEREAS, Goose Creek Stream is now a "part-time" channel ; and WHERE.,S, approximately thirty industries are interested in advancing the deepening of Goose Creek Stream for present and prospective commerce; and WHEREAS, many advantages will accrue to navigation interests using this waterway if the improvements are made; and WHERE S, local interests consider that an adequate and safe channel is necessary to facilitate navigation and keep it competitive with other Texas and Gulf Coast channels ; and WHEREAS, the depth of this channel is no longer adequate for either present or prospective navigation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, JOINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE BAYTOWN CHAMBER OF COPP4ERCE: Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown and the Board of Directors of the City of Baytown's Chamber of Commerce hereby find, declare and establish that the following advantages will accrue to navigation interests if the improvement is authorized: The channel will be passable for all barges when tides are low. b. Broaden the facilities and services available at this port; c. A place where vessels can be docked and repaired; and d. A safe haven in case of an emergency. Section 2: That such improvement is needed and fully justified and, therefore, it should be authorized. It is requested that this project be favorably recommended to the proper authority by the District Engineer of the Galveston District Corps of Engineers. INTRODUCED, READ AND PASSED by the unanimous vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown and the Board of Directors of the Baytown Cham- ber of Commerce this 22nd day of „pril , 1964. C.
