CC Resolution No. 22 RESOLUTION NO, 22-4-63
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN, TEXAS, URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED
STATES TO ENACT LEGISLATION PERMITTING THE MEMBERS
OF THE BAYTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE DEPART—
MENT IN THE STATE OF TEXAS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM AS OTHER CITY OF BAYTOWN
EMPLOYEES.
WHEREAS, it appears an injustice to Firemen and Policemen of the
City of Baytown, Texas, to have a provision in the Social Security Laws
excluding such Departments from Social Security Benefits while other City
Employees participate therein; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas Pension System available to the Firemen
and Policemen of the State of Texas, is not adequate as evidenced by the
fact that the few Baytown Firemen and Policemen who belonged elected to
withdraw and close Baytown's participation therein and the majority refused
to join when it was available, and still do not wish to participate therein;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Baytown, Texas, desires that the City
of Baytown Firemen and Policemen have the same Social Security coverage as
other City of Baytown Employees; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
That our Congressmen and Senators be requested to work for a quick
amendment to the Federal Social Security Act which would permit Texas Munici—
pal Fire and Police Departments to come under Social Security; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
each of the Congressmen and Senators representing our District.
PASSED AND APPROVED this the 25th day of April`, 1963.
