A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN.
TEXAS.AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN TO SUBMIT A NOMINATION TO AND SEEK FUNDING
FROM THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FY2009
TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR A FOUR-BLOCK
TEXAS AVENUE STREETSCAPE PROJECT AND A HISTORIC-THEMED
VISITOR'S CENTER NEAR THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS PLAZA ON NORTH
MAIN STREET:AUTHORIZING A 20%FUNDING MATCH IN THE
AMOUNT OF ONE MILLION TWO HUNDRED EIGHTEEN TI-IOUSAND
ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY-NINE AND NO/100 DOLLARS($1,218,179.00):
DESIGNATING AN AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE:AUTHORIZING
THE REPRESENTATIVE TO ACCEPT OR AFFIRM ANY FUNDING
AWARD THAT MAY RESULT THEREFROM:AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS.the Texas Department of Transportation('TxDOT")FY2009
Transportation Enhancement Program("TEP")is a cost reimbursement program to assist
projects that will promote the betterment of environmental quality through aesthetic
enhancement associated with transportation:and
WHEREAS,the program consists of scenic or historic highway programs.including
providing tourist and welcome center facilities as well as landscaping and other scenic
beautification projects,and
WHEREAS.the City Council of the City of Baytown desires for the City Manager to
submit nominations for the following projects:
1.a four-block Texas Avenue streetscape project,and
2.a historic-themed Visitor's Center near the Republic of Texas Plaza on North
Main street:and
WHEREAS.the City Council believes that the above-referenced projects will enhance
the areas in which they are constructed and will promote revitalization and tourism:NOW
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1:That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to
submit a nomination to and seek funding in the amount of FIVE MILLION THREE HUNDRED
SEVENTY THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS($5,370.000.00)from the Texas Department
of Transportation FY2009 Transportation Enhancement Program for a four-block Texas Avenue
Streetscape Project
Section 2:That the City Council hereby authorizes a 20%funding match for the
project nominated pursuant to Section 1 hereof in the amount of ONE MILLION SEVENTY-
FOUR THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS($1.074.000.00).
Section 3:That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to
submit a nomination to and seek funding from the Texas Department of Transportation FY2009
Transportation Enhancement Program in the amount of SEVEN HUNDRED TWENTY
THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED NINETY-FIVE AND NO/100($720,895.00)for a historic-
themed visitor's center near the Republic of Texas Plaza on North Main Street.
Section 4:That the City Council hereby authorizes a 20%funding match for the
project nominated pursuant to Section 3 hereof in the amount of ONE HUNDRED FORTY-
FOUR THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY-NINE AND NO/100 DOLLARS
($1=44,179.00).
Section 5:That the City!Manager is hereby designated as the authorized
representative for all purposes under the TxDOT's FY2009 TEP.
Section 6:That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept or affirm any
funding award that may result from this submission.
Section 7:This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Baytown.
