RESOLUTION NO. 1863
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN TO MAKE APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007 GRANT FUNDS
FROM THE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE
GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF THIRTY THOUSAND THREE
HUNDRED FOUR AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($30,304.00); DESIGNATING AN
AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE; AUTHORIZING THE
REPRESENTATIVE TO ACCEPT OR AFFIRM ANY GRANT AWARD THAT
MAY RESULT THEREFROM; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE
DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ("JAG") Program
allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and
control crime based on their own local needs and conditions; and
WHEREAS, JAG blends the previous Byrne Formula and Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant (LLEBG) Programs to allow agencies the flexibility to prioritize and place justice funds
where they are most needed; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown first authorized the application for
LLEBG funds in November 1997 and subsequently authorized application for such funds each
year thereafter, the latest being in July 2006; and
WHEREAS, any law enforcement or justice initiative previously eligible for funding
under Byrne or LLEBG is eligible for JAG funding; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown desires to continue its efforts to
combat crime through authorizing the application for JAG funds; NOW THEREFORE
RE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1: That the Interim City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby
authorized to make application to the United States Department of Justice for fiscal year 2007
grant funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program totaling
THIRTY THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED FOUR AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($30,304.00).
Section 2: That the Interim City Manager is hereby designated as the authorized
representative for all purposes under the grant.
Section 3: That the Interim City Manager is hereby authorized to accept or affirm any
grant award that may result from this application.
Section 4: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Baytown.
