WHEREAS, the Houston-Galveston Area Council ("H-GAC) offers a grant program known as the Downtown Public Spaces Improvements Program, which makes funding available to improve public spaces in the downtown areas of communities in the thirteen (13) county H- GAC region (the Program"); and WHEREAS, the Program benefits the region by assisting communities in making downtown areas more attractive and by increasing the local economic vitality, sales tax and property values, while preserving and enhancing their architectural and cultural history; and WHEREAS, under the Program, H-GAC offers a maximum of TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($25,000.00) to its grant recipients for qualifying projects; provided, the grant recipient authorizes a local cash match equal to the grant award; and WHEREAS, on July 27, 2006, the City Council via Resolution No. 1807 authorized the City Manager to submit a grant application to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for eligible improvements in accordance with the Downtown Public Spaces Improvements Program in the amount of TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($25,000.00) and authorized a local cash match equal to the grant award; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has been notified that the Houston-Galveston Area Council will award a grant to the City of Baytown to reimburse the City up to TWENTY-FOUR THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($24,975.00) to cover the cost of improvements for the Historic Downtown Signage Project; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown authorizes and directs the City Manager to accept a grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council for eligible improvements for the Historic Downtown Signage Project in accordance with the Downtown Public Spaces Improvements Program in an amount of TWENTY-FOUR THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($24,975.00). 1 100 Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
