RESOLUTION NO. 1773
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,
SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
ENERGY'S FUTUREGEN PROJECT WITHIN INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT NO. 3,
CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE
THEREOF.

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Energy ("DOE") is seeking to develop a $1 billion,
near-zero emissions, fossil fuel electricity generating and research facility; and
WHEREAS, each state may submit only one candidate site to the U.S. DOE; and
WHEREAS, the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology has requested that regional
councils of government submit one candidate site from their regions to the state; and
WHEREAS, the Houston-Galveston Area Council received several proposals and selected the
proposal from the Baytown-West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation for a site at the
Cedar Crossing Business and Industrial Park as the candidate site for the Houston-Galveston region; and
WHEREAS, the FutureGen project is of national and international significance and its location in
Chambers County would be important to the City of Baytown, Chambers County and the region; and
WHEREAS, based upon information currently available, the City Council of the City of Baytown
finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Baytown to support the location of the FutureGen project
within Industrial District No. 3, Chambers County, Texas; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas,based upon the information
currently known regarding the FutureGen Project hereby supports the location of the United States
Department of Energy's FutureGen Project within Industrial District No. 3 in Chambers County, Texas.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the
City Council of the City of Baytown,Texas.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED, by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of
