CC Resolution No. 14252692 RESOLUTION NO. 1425 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE APPLICATIONS TO THE TEXAS NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION COMMISSION'S PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT AND EDUCATION FUND OF THE GALVESTON BAY ESTUARY PROGRAM FOR A GRANT ENTITLED "TEACH MORE KIDS AND TEACH THE TEACHERS" AND A GRANT ENTITLED "SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT GALVESTON BAY'; DESIGNATING AN AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE; AUTHORIZING THE REPRESENTATIVE TO ACCEPT OR AFFIRM ANY GRANT AWARD THAT MAY RESULT THEREFROM; AUTHORIZING IN -KIND MATCHES TOTALING TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SEVEN AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($2,507.00); AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. WHEREAS, the City of Baytown (the "City "), desires to apply to the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission's Public Involvement and Education Fund of the Galveston Bay Estuary Program for the following grants: ➢ "Teach More Kids and Teach the Teachers" in the amount of SEVEN THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED SEVENTY -THREE AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($7,973.00) to expand the 5 " grade program, to present the environmental program to four schools, and to teach two science workshops; and ➢ "Spread the Word about Galveston Bay" in the amount of NINE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED FORTY AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($9,440.00) to place environmental signs in ten City parks and develop signage for self - guided tours of the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center; and WHEREAS, the "Teach More Kids and Teach the Teachers" Grant requires that the City provide an in -kind match in the amount of THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY -FOUR AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($384.00), and the "Spread the Word about Galveston Bay" Grant requires that the City provide an in -kind match in the amount of TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED TWENTY - THREE AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($2,123.00); and WHEREAS, the proposed uses of these grants, will further the purposes of the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center by increasing awareness of and appreciation for the environment and specifically the Galveston Bay area through informal environmental education and recreation; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to make application to the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission's Public Involvement and Education Fund of the Galveston Bay Estuary Program for a grant entitled "Teach More Kids and Teach the Teachers" in the amount of SEVEN THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED SEVENTY -THREE AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($7,973.00) to expand the 5' grade program, to present the environmental program to four schools, and to teach two science workshops. 2693 Section 2: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to make application to the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission's Public Involvement and Education Fund of the Galveston Bay Estuary Program for a grant entitled "Spread the Word about Galveston Bay" in the amount of NINE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED FORTY AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($9,440.00) to place environmental signs in ten City parks and develop signage for self - guided tours of the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center. Section 3: That the City Manager is hereby designated as the authorized representative for all purposes under the grants. Section 4: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to accept or affirm any grant awards that may result from the above applications. Section 5: That the City's in -kind match in the amount THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY - FOUR AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($384.00) for the "Teach More Kids and Teach the Teachers" Grant and the City's in -kind match in the amount of TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED TWENTY -THREE AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($2,123.00) for the "Spread the Word about Galveston Bay" Grant are hereby authorized. Section 6: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
