CC Resolution No. 1381 2624 RESOLUTION NO. 1381 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, APPOINTING MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO SERVE AS THE COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE FOR CENSUS 2000; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. ****************************************************************************** WHEREAS, next year the Census Bureau will be conducting the 2000 Census and is therefore initiating numerous promotional and operational projects at the national and local levels in order to obtain a complete and accurate count of the United States population; and WHEREAS, it is of importance that the local census count be as complete and accurate as possible, not only for the purpose of having a successful census, but in order to ensure that the City of Baytown and the State of Texas have their appropriate representation based upon the count of all the population of the area; and WHEREAS, the local communities, as represented by municipal governments, are in a unique position to reinforce the need for a complete and accurate count to the local population; and WHEREAS, the Census Bureau recommends that local communities create and organize a Complete Count Committee in order to reflect the importance of the cooperative relationship and joint commitment by both the Census Bureau and the local community as necessary to make the 2000 Census successful; and WHEREAS, the role of the Complete Count Committee is to plan and implement local publicity outreach activities in order to make everyone in the community aware of the 2000 Census and to motivate everyone to participate in the census by appealing to the citizens' self- interest and by explaining the importance of the census to the local community; and WHEREAS, such activities of the Complete Count Committee will enhance the Census Bureau outreach and publicity efforts by spreading the census message to the citizens of the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the creation of an active and working Complete Count Committee will benefit the City of Baytown and the citizens thereof; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That there is hereby created the Complete Census Committee of the City of Baytown, which is directed to plan and implement local publicity outreach activities in order to ensure that every resident of the City of Baytown is counted in the upcoming census. 2625 Section 2: That the members of the Community Development Advisory Committee are hereby appointed to serve as the Complete Count Committee for Census 2000. Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
