CC Resolution No. 1380 2621 RESOLUTION NO. 1380 A UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, COMMENDING AND THANKING BOBBY ROUNTREE FOR HIS YEARS OF EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP AND MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR AND AS CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN. WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree ventured to Baytown, a city on the Gulf Coast, from Lubbock, Texas, on June 12, 1972, to accept a position as Recreation Superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree progressed within the department to Director of Parks and Recreation on October 1, 1975, when recommended for appointment by City Manager Lanham; and WHEREAS, during Bobby Rountree's tenure as Director of Parks and Recreation, due to his leadership and vision, the City acquired Federal grants totaling over $1,400,000 for acquisition and development projects. Also, many new recreational programs, special events, and classes were developed, while league sports attained new levels; and WHEREAS, on October 1, 1989, Bobby Rountree was appointed City Manager of Baytown, Texas, and shortly thereafter, recommended annexation along Highway 146 in Chambers County for future growth and development of the City; and WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree as City Manager coordinated efforts of the Bond Committee and staff to educate voters to the needs of the City, and in 1991, the largest bond program in the City's history was approved by the citizens of Baytown; and WHEREAS, throughout Bobby Rountree's tenure as City Manager he served as General Manager of the Baytown Area Water Authority (BAWA) and led a team of City staff in negotiation of a revised contract with the City of Houston for the purchase of raw water, saving BAWA and the City of Baytown thousands of dollars and ensuring a water supply for future generations of Baytonians; and 2622 WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree served as a member of the Baytown Area West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation Board, making himself and City staff available to meet and confer with CEO's and representatives of companies seeking to locate in Texas or established companies seeking to take advantage of Tax Abatement Policies, Industrial District Policies, etc.; and WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree was fully supportive of creation of the Baytown Crime Control and Prevention District, resulting in additional monies to fund new jail and court facilities, a police academy, and a communications system, along with the hiring of additional police officers; and WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree's accessibility to the citizens, as well as city employees has gained him the admiration and respect of the entire community; and WHEREAS, Bobby Rountree has always led by example and is known for his honesty and integrity; and WHEREAS, our gratitude for Bobby Rountree's dedication, guidance and leadership can never be fully expressed; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City of Baytown and its citizens hereby thank Bobby Rountree for his twenty-six (26) years of selfless service to the City of Baytown. Section 2: That the City of Baytown and its citizens hereby commend Bobby Rountree for his example of leadership through his interaction with employees, City Council, other governmental entities and the citizens of Baytown. Section 3: That the City of Baytown and its citizens wish Bobby Rountree the very best in his future endeavors. Section 4: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
