CC Resolution No. 1360 RESOLUTION NO. 1360 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, REQUESTING LEGISLATIVE ACTION PRESERVING LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITY TO SAVE TAXPAYER DOLLARS THROUGH COOPERATIVE PURCHASING PROGRAMS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. WHEREAS, Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code provides bro: )cal governments to cooperate in the provision of governmental services; and WHEREAS, purchasing is a governmental service; and WHEREAS, cities, counties, independent school districts and spec' this authority extensively for many years to save staff time and taxpayer dollars; and WHEREAS, more than 850 local governments participate in the Hous mcil cooperative purchasing program to purchase, among other products, motor vehic WHEREAS, the Texas Motor Vehicle Division and its Board are actively seeking to restrict or end voluntary local government cooperation in purchasing motor vehicles through the Houston-Galveston Area Council;NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, supports continued local government ability to cooperate in all public purchasing programs, including vehicle purchases. Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, requests the Texas Legislature to take all action necessary to clarify and reaffirm the authority of local governments to cooperate in purchasing motor vehicles. Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
