RESOLUTION NO. 1340
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, NAMING THE
STERLING MUNIICPAL LIBRARY MEETING ROOM IN HONOR OF FLORA RICHARDSON
WILHITE AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Flora Richardson Wilhite has been instrumental in the growth and success of the Sterling
Municipal Library; and
WHEREAS, during Mrs. Wilhite's 32 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the City of Baytown,Mrs. Wilhite
has not only planned and overseen two expansions of the Sterling Municipal Library but also increased the library services
offered to the entire community; and
WHEREAS,the bookmobile and the Literacy Volunteers of America Program are just two of Mrs. Flora Richardson
Wilhite's many outstanding accomplishments achieved while serving as Baytown's Library Director; and
WHEREAS,Flora Richardson Wilhite's commitment to her profession and to her community is readily apparent and
has been recognized by many, including the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association,who named Mrs. Wilhite Library
Director of the Year,the Exxon Baytown Refinery, who named Mrs. Wilhite Refiner of the Year,and the American Diabetes
Association, who named Mrs. Wilhite Honorary Chairman; and
WHEREAS,Mrs. Wilhite's love of learning and desire to enrich the lives of others has been and will continue to be
a great asset of the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS,the Baytown Library Board unanimously recommends to the City Council that the meeting room of the
Sterling Municipal Library be named in honor of Ms. Flora Richardson Wilhite; and
WHEREAS, naming the meeting room of the Sterling Municipal Library in honor of Mrs. Wilhite would be an
appropriate gesture to honor her dedication to the City of Baytown;NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown,Texas, hereby names the meeting room of the Sterling
Municipal Library"Flora Richardson Wilhite Meeting Room" in honor of the selfless service of Mrs. Wilhite to the citizens
of the City of Baytown.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the
City of Baytown, Texas.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED, by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown this the
22nd day of January, 1998.
