RESOLUTION NO. 1267
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, REGISTERING THE CITY' S SUPPORT OF THE CONFIRMATION
OF THE BAYTOWN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY AND OF THE PROPOSED
SALES AND USE TAX TO FINANCE THE AUTHORITY' S OPERATIONS;
AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, on December 8, 1994, in Ordinance No. 7187, the City
Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, after determining that the
creation of an authority and the construction and operation of a
transportation system would benefit persons and property situated
within the city limits, created the Baytown Transportation
Authority ("BTA" ) ; and
WHEREAS, since its creation, the BTA has considered the
Comprehensive Plan of the City of Baytown, the Transportation Needs
Analysis, the Short-Term Transportation Implementation Plan as well
as other appropriate documents and studies prepared for the BTA
regarding the feasibility and financing of a public transportation
system in the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, on October 26 , 1995, the BTA called a confirmation
and tax election for January 20, 1996, wherein voters will be given
the opportunity to confirm the creation of the BTA and the levy of
the proposed sales and use tax; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas,
desires to reaffirm its finding that the creation of the BTA and
the construction and operation of a transportation system would
benefit persons and property situated within the city limits; NOW
THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, supports the creation of the Baytown Transportation
Authority and the levy of the proposed sales and use tax.
Section 2 : This Resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
