RESOLUTION NO. 1250
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING RETAINING JOHNSON SPACE CENTER
ACTIVITIES IN THE CLEAR LAKE AREA; AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Johnson Space Center is a major employer in the
Houston-Galveston region; and
WHEREAS, the "spin-off" growth opportunities in the aerospace
and high tech sectors provided by the Johnson Space Center are
critical to the long-term growth and diversification of the
Houston-Galveston regional economy; and
WHEREAS, NASA is currently considering consolidation proposals
which would move 3 , 500 - 7, 000 jobs in engineering, space shuttle
management, and orbiter operations from the Johnson Space Center to
NASA centers in Alabama and Florida; NOW THEREFORE
BE IS RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown
supports the retention of the shuttle, orbiter, and space station
engineering divisions and the Shuttle Program Management Office and
Orbiter Project Management Office at the Johnson Space Center in
Houston.
Section 2 : That the City Council urges Texas' Congressional
delegation to work to retain these jobs as it considers NASA' s
proposal and its budget .
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect immediately from
and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown this the 8th day of June, 1995 .
