RESOLUTION NO. 1166
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXTENDED BENEFITS TO WIDOWS OF
VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER RETIREES; AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Fire Fighters' Pension Commission has established
a program of liberalized pension benefits for spouses of volunteer
fire fighter retirees under HB 258 which is optional for Cities;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown finds that spouses of deceased
volunteer fire fighters, who are eligible for monthly benefits,
should receive those benefits as long as they remain alive
regardless of remarriage; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown finds that spouses of deceased
volunteer fire fighters, who are eligible to receive monthly
pension benefits, should receive those benefits regardless of when
they married the volunteer fire fighter; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1: That the Mayor of the City of Baytown is hereby
authorized to approve the extension of benefits to spouses of
volunteer fire fighter retirees under HB 258 to provide for
continued benefits regardless of remarriage and regardless of when
they married the volunteer fire fighter.
Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately from
and after its passage by the City Council of the city of Baytown.
