AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,
CALLING FOR THE CLOSING OF THE RAILROAD CROSSING LOCATED ON PINE
STREET IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE
DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Union Pacific Railroad Company, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the City of
Baytown, Texas, have joined together to consolidate redundant and unnecessary street/railroad crossings; and
WHEREAS, because each grade crossing represents elevated risk as an additional opportunity for a
collision between a train and a vehicle, the City staff asked public safety officials and the Goose Creek Independent
School District to determine if there were any of the redundant grade crossings that could be closed to improve
safety while not posing operational or public safety obstacles; and
WHEREAS, of the various possible locations that were discussed at such meetings, one was identified as a
candidate for closure: Pine Street; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, believes that for the public health, safety and
welfare, the railroad crossing at Pine Street should be permanently closed to vehicular traffic and vacated; NOW
THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN. TEXAS:
Section 1: The facts recited in the preamble of this Ordinance are hereby found and declared to be
true and correct.
Section 2: That the Pine Street Crossing (U. S. DOT 76284K) be permanently closed to vehicular
traffic and vacated at the time the City places the appropriate barricades or end-treatment on both of the roadway
approaches of each crossing at a distance of about 40 feet from the Main Track.
Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council
of the City of Baytown.
