Box 424 Baytown, Texas 77522-0424 (281) 420-6550 • (281) 420-7176 Fax DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Baytown, Texas, could be facing the spread of a pandemic flu outbreak or other health emergency resulting from COVID-19 (novel coronavirus); and WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Baytown, Texas, has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect its citizens from a public health threat; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: That a local state of disaster is hereby declared for the City of Baytown, Texas, pursuant to §418.108(a) of the Texas Government Code. 2. Pursuant to §418.018(b) of the Texas Government Code, the state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven (7) days from the date of this declaration unless continued or renewed by the City Council of the City of Baytown. Pursuant to §418.018(c) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the City Clerk. 4. Pursuant to §418.018(d) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster activates the City Emergency Management Plan. That this proclamation shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance. ORDERED this the �"day of 2020. Wait on that call before issuing any local declaration. Comments: • Media not helping; hurting at this time. Need a unified statement from Harris County/Mayors calming people, stop hoarding, etc. • PD, so far, not seeing an increase in disturbance calls for fighting, shoplifting, etc. • People stocking up on supplies, like flood scenarios across the country — not just Baytown • Still dealing with normal cough, colds, allergies — see your doctor— not everything is coronavirus • If people think they have symptoms, what do they do?
