CC Resolution No. 2618RESOLUTION NO. 2618 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE UNITED STATES CENSUS BUREAU BY ESTABLISHING A COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE TO COORDINATE EFFORTS AND INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS TO ACHIEVE THE MOST ACCURATE AND COMPLETE POPULATION COUNT IN THE 2020 CENSUS; AND PROVIDING FOR Tf1E EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. ****************************************************************************** WHEREAS, the U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the population every 10 years and has done so every 10 years since 1790; and WHEREAS, census data helps determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and is necessary for an accurate and fair districting of state legislative seats, county and city councils and voting districts; and WHEREAS, federal and state funding is allocated to communities and decisions are made on matters of national and local importance based, in part, on census data and housing; and WHEREAS, a united voice from government, business, community -based and faith - based organizations, educators, and others will enable the 2020 Census message to reach all persons of our community, including traditionally hard to count or undercounted populations; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is committed to ensuring every resident is counted; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: The City of Baytown is committed to partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau and will participate to ensure a full and accurate count of residents. Section 2: The City of Baytown encourages all residents to be counted and to participate in events and initiatives that will raise the overall awareness of the 2020 Census and increase participation. Section 3: The City of Baytown hereby establishes a Complete Count Committee to assist in promotion, outreach, understanding, and education regarding the 2020 Census. This Complete Count Committee is to be comprised of up to seven (7) members that shall be appointed by the Mayor, who shall serve as the Chairman of the Complete Count Committee. Section 4: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
