Ordinance No. 8,204980212 -15 ORDINANCE NO. 8204 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, ® RENAMING CEDAR STREET TO EUGENIO SANTANA DRIVE; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. WHEREAS, Eugenio Santana, a 76 -year resident of the City of Baytown, was instrumental in and greatly contributed to the growth of the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, Mr. Santana is best known for the generosity and kindness he extended to those in need — especially to those of the Hispanic and African - American communities in the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, Eugenio Santana exhibited such generosity and kindness by providing transportation to those less fortunate than he and providing family entertainment opportunities to the Hispanic and African - American communities; and WHEREAS, the Growth Management and Development Advisory Commission, after considering a request to rename Cedar Street in honor of Mr. Santana, voted unanimously to change the street name and recommends the same to the City Council; and WHEREAS, changing the name of Cedar Street to Eugenio Santana Drive would be an appropriate gesture to honor Mr. Santana's dedication and contributions to the City of Baytown; NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section L That Cedar Street is hereby renamed and shall henceforth be known as Eugenio. Santana Drive. Section 2: The Director of Public Works is authorized and directed to place street markers showing the correct name of Eugenio Santana Drive. Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
