ORDINANCE NO. 8204
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,
® RENAMING CEDAR STREET TO EUGENIO SANTANA DRIVE; AND PROVIDING FOR
THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, Eugenio Santana, a 76 -year resident of the City of Baytown, was instrumental in and
greatly contributed to the growth of the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Santana is best known for the generosity and kindness he extended to those in need
— especially to those of the Hispanic and African - American communities in the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, Eugenio Santana exhibited such generosity and kindness by providing transportation to
those less fortunate than he and providing family entertainment opportunities to the Hispanic and African -
American communities; and
WHEREAS, the Growth Management and Development Advisory Commission, after considering a
request to rename Cedar Street in honor of Mr. Santana, voted unanimously to change the street name and
recommends the same to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, changing the name of Cedar Street to Eugenio Santana Drive would be an appropriate
gesture to honor Mr. Santana's dedication and contributions to the City of Baytown; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section L That Cedar Street is hereby renamed and shall henceforth be known as Eugenio.
Santana Drive.
Section 2: The Director of Public Works is authorized and directed to place street markers
showing the correct name of Eugenio Santana Drive.
Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of
Baytown this the 12`h day of February, 1998.
