ORDINANCE NO. 8019
® AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, TO ACCEPT
GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY
THOUSAND AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($750,000.00) FROM THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE; INCREASING THE NUMBER OF
POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFICATION "SERVICE GROUP - POLICE "; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section l: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to
accept a Universal Hiring Program three -year grant award in the amount of SEVEN HUNDRED
FIFTY THOUSAND AND NO /100 DOLLARS ($750,000.00) from the United States
Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for ten (10)
new, full -time officers.
Section 2: That the City Manager is hereby designated as the authorized
representative for all purposes under the grant, and is authorized to execute all documents in
connection with the grant.
Section 3: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to
make all reports and assure compliance with all special conditions of the grant.
Section 4: That Ordinance 6841, passed the 28" day of October, 1993, relating to the
number of positions in the Classification "Service Group- Police," is hereby amended at Section I
to read as follows:
The number ofpositions in each classification in the police department shall be as
follows:
Chief of Police 1
Assistant Chief /Captain 5
(Subject to provisions enacted by Ordinance No. 5941,
Sections 1 -4, adopted August 1, 1991)
Lieutenants S
Sergeants 12
Patrol Officer 101
Section 5: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Baytown.
