ORDINANCE NO. 7993
® AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A MID -BLOCK CROSSWALK IN FRONT
OF MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH AT 600 WEST STERLING AVENUE;
AUTHORIZING THE POSTING OF PROPER SIGNS; REPEALING
CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, mid -block crosswalks provide for the safety and welfare of pedestrians and
vehicle operators and, as such, are beneficial to the citizens of the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 1312 adopting the City of Baytown Mid -Block
Crosswalk Policy, the Growth Management and Development Advisory Commission approves the
mid -block crosswalk in front of Memorial Baptist Church at 600 West Sterling Avenue; NOW
THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section l: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, pursuant to the
provisions of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, does hereby authorize a mid -
block crosswalk in front of Memorial Baptist Church at 600 West. Sterling Street.
Section 2: The Director of Public Works is authorized and directed to place the proper
signs and markings at the above - described location.
Section 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent with the terms of this
ordinance are hereby repealed; provided however, that such repeal shall be only to the extent of such
inconsistency and in all other respects this ordinance shall be cumulative of other ordinances
regulating and governing the subject matter covered by this ordinance.
Section 4: If any provisions, section, exception, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause
or phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to any person or set of circumstances, shall for
any reason be held unconstitutional, void or invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the validity of
the remaining provisions of this ordinance or their application to other persons or sets of
circumstances and to this end all provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City
of Baytown this the 12th day of June, 1997.
