ORDINANCE NO. 5965
AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING THE POSITIONS OF THE TWO
LIEUTENANTS AND ONE SERGEANT IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
POLICE DEPARTMENT WHO ARE PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown conducted a comprehensive study
of the Baytown Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown pursuant to said study and in
order to strengthen the chain of command, balance command
responsibility, and provide the Chief of Police with a broader
command staff, has created three additional Captains positions;
and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police of the City of Baytown Police
Department proposes to promote two lieutenants and one sergeant
currently employed by the City of Baytown Police Department to
the Captains positions; and
WHEREAS, the positions in the City of Baytown Police
Department command structure from which new Captains are being
promoted will be replaced by the new Captains positions; and
WHEREAS, the positions from which these new Captains are
being promoted are no longer necessary as a part of the new
command structure resulting from the creation of the new Captains
positions; and
WHEREAS, the goals of economy and efficiency through
strengthening the chain of command, balance of command
responsibility, and providing the City of Baytown with a broader
command staff, incorporating functions not currently identified
in the structure and recognizing and grouping similar functions
within the agency, would best be served by abolishing the
positions from which these new Captains are being promoted; NOW
THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
