Ordinance No. 4,18250627 -3 ORDINANCE NO. 4182 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN DESIGNATING THE BLOCKS ON TEXAS AVENUE BETWEEN NORTH MAIN AND WHITING STREET AS A BUILDING CONSERVATION DISTRICT; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, the numerous buildings located between North Main Street and Whiting Street facing on Texas Avenue and facing the south side of West Defee and facing the North side of West Pearce constitute the old business center of the City of Goose Creek and later the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown has determined that it is in the public interest to preserve and help to restore these buildings because such restoration will benefit small businesses and help continue this area as a business district; and WHEREAS, restoration of buildings in this area will increase their value upon the tax rolls of the City, and will help to maintain the market value of the surrounding neighborhoods, all of which will result in financial benefit to the City of Baytown and its taxpayers; and WHEREAS, the addition of various businesses to the Texas Avenue area will help diversify the economy of the Baytown area, which will again benefit the City and its taxpayers; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to declare the area contained within the above named boundaries as a Building Conservation District; and WHEREAS, such declaration will allow these buildings to receive special consideration under Section 101.5.1 "Building Conservation Districts," of the Building Code of the City of Baytown, as long as these buildings are restored in a manner that will protect the public health, safety and welfare; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the area bounded by North Main Street on the east, Whiting Street on the west, West Pearce on the south, and `tihlest Defee on the north, is declared and designated as a Building Conservation District by the City of Baytown. Section 2: This designation is made solely for the purpose of providing for special consideration under Section 101.5.1 of the Building Code of the City of Baytown, and thereby aid the restoration of buildings within the District. 50627 --3a Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
