Ordinance No. 3,7270 31214 --3 0?OINANCE NO. 3727 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR, UNDER THE ACT GOVER14 M THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, PARTICIPATION OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN IN THE SLN"- E1rFNTAL DEATH BE NU ITS FUND TO PROVIDE CERTAIN IN-SERVICE nEATH BENEFITS FOR EMPLOYEES, AND DEATH BENEFITS FOR ANNUITANTS 11HOSE LIST EMPLOYMENT BEFORE RETIREMENT WAS WITH THE CITY OF SAYTOWN; CANCELING PARTICPATION 1N THE TEXAS MIAO pAL LEAGUE JOWT INS1.111AN E TRUST TERM LIE l{1SRANCE pOL.ICY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR SUCH ACT&IK t# ittil itiiitttti#! t# t# tttttt### t!t!!ltttititittitli #ttltk #44 #f i#iiitti4tittfiF#* 13E IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXASt Section 1: That the City of Baytown hereby elects to participate in the Supplemental Death Benefits Find of the Texas Municipal Retirement System for the purpose of providing in- service death benefits for each of the City's employees who are members of said System, and for the purpose of providing post- retirement death benefits for annuitants whose Ia6t covered employment was as an employee of the City, in the amounts and on the terms provided for in Sections 62.004, 64.601 through 64,605, 65.314, 65.409, and 65.502 of Title 110x, Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, 1925, es amended. Section ks The City of Baytown is hereby authorized and directed to notify the Director of the System of adoption of this ordinance, and of the participation of the City of said Fund. Section 3: That upon the death of a retired member eligible to receive the supplemental death benefit described above, the administration is authorized and directed to pay to the designated beneficiary or beneficiaries of such deceased member the amount of $500.00 from the General Fund as an additional death benefit. However, in no ca;.e shall this benefit, when added to the benefit described in Section 1 above, result in the total supplemental death benefits contemplated under this ordinance being in excess of $3,000.00. Should the total of the two payments be in excess of $3,000.00, the payment made by the City shall be reduced by an amount equal to the amount by which the two payments exceed $3,000.00. Section 4: Participation of the above mentioned employees and annuitants in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund shall cancel participation in the Texas Municipal League Joint Insurance Trust Term Life Insurance Policy. i r7T 31214-3a Section 5.- Participation of the above mentioned employees and annuitants in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund shall be effective on the ]at day of January, 1964.
