BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That subsection 282 -1(c) is hereby amended
to read as follows:
Section 282 -1 Exceptions to payment of ad valorem taxes.
(c) Homestead. Twenty (200) per cent of the market
value of the residence homestead of a married or un-
married adult, including one living alone, is entitled
to an exemption from taxation. However, the amount
of this exemption shall not be less than $5,000.00.
Joint or community owners may not each receive the
same exemption provided by or pursuant to this subsec-
tion for the same residence homestead in the same year.
Section 2: That subsection 282 -1(d) is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 282 -1. Exceptions to payment of ad valorem taxes.
(d) Limitation. A single parcel of property shall not
be entitled to both the exemptions described in subsec-
tion (a) and (b) above.
Section 3: That section 282 -1 is hereby amended by adding
a section, to be numbered 282 -1(e), which shall read as follows:
Section 28 -1 Exceptions to payment of ad valorem taxes.
(e) Filing. In order to obtain the exemptions provided
for above, the owner desiring the exemption shall file
with the tax assessor - collector of the City of Baytown,
on a form furnished by the tax assessor - collector, a
sworn application for exemption.
Section 4: All ordinances or parts of ordinances incon-
sistent with the terms of this ordinance are hereby repealed;
provided, however, that such repeal shall be only to the ex-
tent of such inconsistency and in all other respects this ordi-
nance shall be cumulative of other ordinances regulating and
governing the subject matter covered by this ordinance.

Section 5: If any provision, section, exception, sub-
section, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordi-
nance or the application of same to any person or set of
circumstances shall for any reason be held unconstitutional,
void or invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the vali-
dity of the remaining provisions of this ordinance or their
application to the persons or set of circumstances and to
this end all provisions of this ordinance are declared to
be severable.
Section 6: This ordinance shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council.
