AN ORDINANCE DISCONTINUING, ABANDONING FOR PUBLIC USE,
AND CLOSING A PORTION OF DORRIS STREET IN CENTRAL
HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN; AUTHORIZING
QUITCLAIMING ALL INTEREST OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN AND
THE PUBLIC IN AND TO SUCH RIGHT -OF -WAY; AND DIRECTING
THAT THE COUNTY CLERK OF HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, SO
INDICATE ON THE RECORDED PLAT OF SAID SUBDIVISION.
WHEREAS, that portion of Dorris Street between the east
right -of -way line of the Laredo Street right -of -way and the
north right -of -way line of West Texas Avenue in Central
Heights Subdivision of the City of Baytown as recorded by
map and plat at Volume 11, Pages 48 and 49, Map Records of
Harris County, Texas, is not now used by the public; and
WHEREAS, Council held a hearing to consider all comments
d� and evidence of parties interested in this Dorris Street
right -of -way, and notice of such hearing was sent to all
owners abutting said right -of -way as indicated by the tax
records and other records of the City; and
WHEREAS, no interest of the public requires that said
Dorris Street right -of -way be retained; and
WHEREAS, the interest of the public will be benefited
by the abandonment of that Dorris Street right -of -way; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that the
fair market value of the said property is as follows:
That portion of Dorris Street from West Texas Avenue to
a line crossing Dorris Street and being an extension of
the common line between Lots 21 and 22 in Block 18 of
Central Heights:
$0.15 per sq. ft.
The balance of Dorris Street to Laredo Street that is
not covered by water:
$0.10 per sq. ft.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That the portion of Dorris Street right-
of -way from the east right -of -way line of the Laredo Street

right -of -way to the north right -of -way line of West Texas
Avenue in Central Heights Subdivision of the City of Baytown
as recorded by map and plat at Volume 11, Pages 48 and 49,
Map Records of Harris County, Texas, save and except that
portion of said right -of -way beginning at the Southeast
corner of Lot 20, Block 18, of Central Heights, said point--D
also being the intersection of the North right -of -way line
of West Texas Avenue with the West right -of -way line of
Dorris Street;
THENCE, North 00 8' East with the East line of Lot 20 a
distance of 46.5 feet to a point situated on the east
line of Lot 20;
THENCE, South 640 14' 31” East over and across said
Dorris Street right -of -way a distance of 67.5 feet to a
point situated on the east line of said right -of -way;
THENCE, South 00 8' West with the East line of said
Dorris Street right -of -way a distance of 56.54 feet to
a point at the intersection of the East right -of -way
line of Dorris Street with the North right -of -way line
of West Texas Avenue;
THENCE, North 560 58' West with the North line of West
Texas Avenue a distance of 71.23 feet to the point of
beginning
be discontinued and abandoned for public use.
Section 2: That upon receipt of consideration for the
fair market value of the property, the Mayor and City Clerk
are hereby authorized to execute and attest to any instruments
necessary to abandon and quitclaim the City's interest in
said right -of -way to the abutting landowners.
Section 3: The County Clerk of Harris County, Texas,
is directed to write across the corresponding portions of
said plat the word "closed" and also make reference on the
same to the volume and page at which this ordinance is
recorded.
Section 4: This ordinance shall take effect from and
after its passage.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of
the City Council of the City of Baytown on this 11th day
of April , 1979.
