AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS DURING CONSTRUCTION
ON A PORTION OF LOOP 201 WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF
BAYTOWN AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation has made it known to the City of Baytown that
operations will begin in the near future for construction of
structures, grading, and storm sewers along Loop 201; and
WHEREAS, in the interest of safety, it is desirable to
maintain a construction speed zone during the construction
period; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That a construction speed zone be established
along Loop 201 from a point 550 feet west of Hunter Street
to SH 146 at McKinney Road, a distance of approximately
3.118 miles, of 35 miles per hour, to be effective when so
signed within said zone.
Section 2: That necessary signs for posting the speed
zone will be furnished, installed, and maintained by the
direction of the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation engineer in charge of the project.
Section 3: Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall, upon conviction, be fined in any sum not to
exceed Two Hundred and No /100 ($200.00) Dollars.
Section 4: This ordinance shall be in effect only
during the period of construction, and completion of this
project shall automatically cancel the speed zone.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of
the City Council on this 14th day of September 1978.
