ORDINANCE NO. 2521
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
EXEMPTING THE RESIDENTIAL USE OF GAS AND ELECTRICITY
FROM THE ONE PER CENT (1 %) CITY SALES TAX.
WHEREAS, the 65th Legislature, 1st Called Session, has
enacted legislation exempting residential use of gas and
electricity from the four per cent (4%) State Sales Tax and
providing a local option on the one per cent (lo) City Sales
Tax; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, as governing body of the
City of Baytown, desires to exempt family dwellings, multi-
family apartments, housing complexes or buildings or portions
of buildings occupied as a home or residence from the one
per cent (1%) City Sales Tax in order to provide relief for
its citizens; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1: Residential use of gas and electricity be
exempted from the one per cent (1%) City Sales Tax effective
October 1, 1978.
Section 2: The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a
certified copy of this ordinance by registered or certified
mail to: Warrant Control Section, Revenue Processing Division,
P. 0. Box 13528, Austin, Texas 78711, together with the
address of utilities serving the City.
Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect from and
after its passage.
Adopted this the 24th day of August , 1978, by the
affirmative vote of Council, 7 ayes 0 nays.
