ORDINANCE NO. 2189
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, DESIGNATING SPEED LIMIT ZONES BY ALTERING THE
PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICLES UNDER
THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701d, VERNON'S TEXAS CIVIL
STATUTES, UPON THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC
INVESTIGATION, WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF BAYTOWN, AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE; PRESCRIBING A
MAXIMUM PENALTY OF TWO HUNDRED AND NO 1100 ($200.00)
DOLLARS FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND PROVIDING FOR THE
PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: That on the basis of engineering and traffic
investigations, the prima facie speed limits established for
vehicles under the provisions of Article 6701d, Vernon's
Texas Civil Statutes are hereby altered, and the following
prima facie speed limits hereinafter indicated for vehicles
are hereby determined and declared to be reasonable and
prudent, and such speed limits are hereby fixed at the rate
of speed indicated for vehicles traveling upon such streets
or parts thereof, to -wit:
(a) 40 mile per hour speed zones:
(1) Rollingbrook Drive: Garth Road to North Main
{ Street
(2) Ward Road: Narcille Street to Kilgore Road.
Section 2: The Director of Planning is hereby authorized
and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted at the
above described locations.
Section 3: It shall be unlawful for a driver of a
vehicle to disobey the instructions of the signs placed in
accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, unless at
the time otherwise directed by a police officer.

Section 4: Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two
Hundred ($200.00) Dollars, and each violation shall con-
stitute a separate offense.
Section 5: This ordinance shall take effect from and
after ten (10) days after its passage by the City Council.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to give notice hereof by
causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in the
official newspaper of the City of Baytown at least twice
within ten (10) days after the passage of this ordinance.
