Ordinance No. 2,1427187 ORDINANCE NO. 2142 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 28J, "TAXATION," BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 28�.1(b) AS PRESENTLY CONSTITUTED AND SUB- STITUTING IN ITS PLACE THE PROVISIONS OF A NEW SUB- SECTION 28J.1(b); REPEALING ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baytown is hereby amended by the amendment of Chapter 28?, "Taxation," by repealing Subsection 28�.1(b) thereof, and the same shall cease to have force and effect from and after the effective date of this ordinance. Section 2: That the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by adding thereto the provisions of a new Subsection 28J.1(b) which shall read as follows, to -wit: Section 281.1. Exceptions to payment of ad valorem taxes. (b) Subject to the provisions hereof, from and after January 1, 1977, $7,000 of the assessed value of residence homesteads, as defined by the laws of the State of Texas, of married or unmarried persons sixty - five (65) years of age or older, including those living alone shall be exempted from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Baytown. Section 5: Effective Date: This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
