ORDINANCE NO.1870
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OFTHECITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS,AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY THE AMENDMENT
OF CHAPTER 18,"MOTORVEHICLES AND TRAFFIC,"SECTION 18-42.1,
DESIGNATION OF GROSS WEIGHT,SO AS TO REPEAL THE PROVISIONS
OF SUCH SECTION AS PRESENTLY CONSTITUTED ANDTO SUBSTITUTE
IN ITS PLACE A NEW SECTION 18-42.1;REPEALING ORDINANCES
INCONSISTENT HEREWITH;CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE;PRO
VIDING A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EACH
OFFENSE;AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE
DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THECITYOF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1:That the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Baytown,Texas,is hereby amended by amending Chapter 18,
"Motor Vehicles and Traffic,"by repealing Section 18-42.1,
Designation of Gross Weight thereof,and the same shall
cease to have force and effect from and after the effective
date of this ordinance.
Section 2:That the Code of Ordinances,herein is
hereby amended by adding thereto a newSection 1842.1,
Designation of Gross Weight,in Chapter 18,"Motor Vehicles
and Traffic,"which shall read as follows,to wit:
Section 18-42.1 Designation of Gross Weight.
(a)Five thousand (5,000)pounds (2 1/2
tons)limit:
(1)That portion of West Texas Avenue
crossing the bridge over Goose
Creek Stream.
(2)That portion of Elvinta Street
crossing the bridge over Pond
Gully.
(b)Six thousand (6,000)pounds (3 tons)
limit:

(1)That portion of Civil Drive from
Civic Circle to Market Street.
(c)Thirty thousand (30,000)pounds (15
tons)limit:
(1)That portion of Park Street between
North Main Street and Garth Road.

Section 3:TheChief of Police is hereby authorized
and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted at the
above described locations.
Section 4:It shall be unlawful for a driver of a
vehicle to disobey the instructions of the signs placed in
accordance with the provisions of this ordinance,unless at
the time otherwise directed by a police officer.
Section 5:Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two
Hundred ($200.00)Dollars,and each violation shall constitute
a separate offense.
Section 6:This ordinance shall take effect from and
after ten (10)days after its passage by the City Council.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to give notice hereof by
causing this caption tobe published in the official newspaper
of the City of Baytown at least twice within ten (10)days
after the passage of this ordinance.
